The Basic Science & Humanities Department had organised an art exhibition, CANVAS, which showcased Photographs and Paintings by B. Tech. First Year students, from 20th to 22nd November, 2018. The Exhibition was held in the foyer of the first floor of the new building in the campus.

It was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) R.T. Goswami, Hon’ble Director, TINT, Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Ghosh, respected Registrar, TINT, Prof. (Dr.) Mala Mitra, Head, Department of BSH and Controller of Examinations, Sister Nivedita University, and Prof. (Dr.) Milan Basu, Head, Department of Electrical Engineering. All HODs and senior Professors were also present during the Inauguration of the Exhibition. They appreciated the artworks and encouraged the students to explore their talents further.

The Exhibition witnessed the footfall of not only large sections of students and faculties, but also that of distinguished guests, like Prof. (Dr.) Hiroko Hamada from Okayama University, Japan. It was a privilege to have Mr. Arun Ghosh and Mr. Shantanu Roy visit the Exhibition and interact with the students.

The entire area was decorated by the students themselves with artworks, crafts and origami artefacts that they had themselves made for the Exhibition. There were 26 photographs and 32 paintings on display, each of which had a unique story to tell— a story told by the young creative mind behind the artwork.

Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Ghosh expressed his desire to obtain a canvas painting titled “Peace” drawn by Sumanoy Debnath, student of Civil Engineering, 1st year. Prof. Ghosh also mentioned in the Inaugural meet that he would like to gift it to the President of Mahabodhi Society. It was considered a great honour for Sumanoy’s talent. Paintings by Abhishikta Sengupta (CE, 1st year), Anish Banerjee (ECE, 1st year), Shibaditya Dey (EIE, 1st year) and Mrinmoy Sarkat (IT, 1st year) also deserve special mention. Photographs by Anish Kundu (EE, 1st year), Kevin Juthani (CSE, 1st year), Debanjali Jyoti Chattopadhyaya (CSE, 1st year), Sayan Roy (CE, 1st year) and Sayan Neogi (CE, 1st year) were especially appreciated.

The B. Tech. First Year students showed immense enthusiasm in participating and volunteering for the Exhibition. The posters and invitation cards were also drawn by them, and rendered an artistic, heartfelt touch to the cards and posters. CANVAS 2018 provided the students with a platform where they could explore their creative talents, get involved with the activities in their own College, and strengthen their bond with the faculties and the Institute.

The CANVAS team is thankful to the staff and management of TINT for extending their support in all ways possible. CANVAS 2018 was a huge success, and the BSH Department hopes to organise the art exhibition every year in November.
