The central library is the lifeline of all academic activities of the college. The primary goal of the library is to cater to the academic needs of the teachers, students, and staff with its diverse collection of resources in print and electronic format. The library functions as a backbone of all teaching learning systems of the college.

The library houses 3,784 distinct book titles spanning various disciplines, supplemented by an impressive 48,192 print volumes. It has a good collection of reference books including competitive examinations, general knowledge, yearbooks, dictionaries, handbooks, encyclopedias, etc. This collection is further enriched by 55,450 eBooks ensuring comprehensive coverage of academic and research needs across diverse subject areas. Print resources also includes 33 print journals, 9 newspapers, and 5 magazines, offering a rich repository of scholarly literature.

Programme wise distribution of books (titles and volumes)

The following rules and regulations must be maintained in the library premises. The students are advised to go through these rules before using the library.

1. Working Hours:  Library remains operational from 09:30 am to 06:30 pm on every working day excepting Sundays and holidays. Circulation hours is fixed at 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

2. Keeping Silence: Silence must be maintained inside the library. Chatting or gossiping and loitering in the library are strictly prohibited.

3. Use of mobile phones: SMobile phones should be kept in silent mode inside the reading room. Attending phone calls or playing songs or movies or videos on laptops / mobiles etc. inside the reading room is strictly prohibited.

4. About Library Membership Card:

1. 1. Student Identity card / Employee Identity card issued by the college will act as library membership card. No separate membership card will be issued to the users. No user will be entertained in the library without a proper identity card.
   2. The identity card / membership card is not transferable i.e. users must use their own card. One cannot issue books and other documents showing other’s membership card. In such case proper authorization letter must be shown to the concerned library staff.
   3. In case of loss of identity card, the users should contact the appropriate authority of the college immediately and issue a duplicate card at the earliest.

5. Change of Address or Telephone Number: Any change of address (permanent or temporary) or telephone number should be intimated to the concerned authority in writing with a photocopy of supporting document.

6. Circulation rules for Students

1. 1. Books will be issued on first come first served basis.
   2. A maximum of eight (8) books will be issued (subject to availability) to the students at a time for lending which can be kept upto the semester exam.
   3. Reference books can be issued for a maximum period of 14 days depending upon the demand and availability of the concerned book.
   4. Renewal of books is possible for one month only in case of textbooks and 7 days in case of reference books. Renewal can be done for 2 times only.
   5. Gift books can be issued for 7 days only and can be renewed thereafter as per renewal rules.

7. Circulation rules for faculty members

1. 1. Faculty members can issue a maximum of ten (10) books at a time for the period of one month which may be renewed thereafter for another period of one month. A maximum of 2 renewals can be made for a particular book.
   2. Part Time / Contractual / Probationary / Visiting / Guest Faculty members can issue 2 books at a time for a period of one month. They must submit the books to the library on or before their last date of contract.

8. Borrowing of other Resources:

1. 1. Periodicals: Periodicals (Journals / Magazines / Newspapers) cannot be issued to the members. They are to be used in the reading room only.
   2. Electronic Resources: eBooks, Online Journals, CDs/DVDs, forms the electronic resources which are available in the digital section of the library. CDs/DVDs (available with books and magazines) can be issued to the members for a limited period. Online journals and eBooks can be accessed in the digital section of the library or through remote access software (Knimbus).
   3. Question Papers: The library has a repository of previous years’ university question papers (soft copy) which are available in digital mode and can be directly accessed through Knimbus.

9. Returning of books and Fine rules

1. 1. Books should be returned or renewed within the stipulated date stamped on the due date slip, otherwise a fine of Re. 1/- will be imposed on the students per day for each book till the submission of the book. However, there is no fine system for faculty members.
   2. If the book is lost or damaged or badly mutilated after lending from the library, the last borrower of the book will be held responsible. He / she should replace the exact book in good condition.
   3. If the book is on demand, the period of loan cannot be extended.
   4. Books issued for reading purpose cannot be taken outside the library. If found, a fine of Rs. 2/- will be imposed on the student per book per day till the submission of the book.

10. Maintaining library registers:

1. 1. All users should maintain library attendance register regularly. They must mention the in-time, out-time and purpose of visiting the library in the said register.
   2. Proper entries to be made in the reading room issue register and periodicals issue register before using the books and periodicals respectively. These will help the library authorit to keep a record of the daily utilization of resources.

11. Use of reference section: Reference section of the library must be used for reading library documents (books or journals or newspapers) only. Reading personal books, using personal laptops, any project or practical work cannot be done in the reference section.

12. Knimbus registration:The library provides the facility of remote access of online resources through a remote access software named Knimbus. All users should register themselves in Knimbus to access the online resources. For this purpose, they must scan the following QR code given for the purpose at various locations in the library.
    

13. OPAC view: All users should check their account in TCSiON Self-Service portal regularly. This portal shows the current status of users’ accounts i.e. issue status, fine status, reservation status etc. (My Library section). From OPAC Library section they can also check the availability of books in the library.

14. If the book is found to be damaged or badly mutilated during lending, it should be immediately brought to the notice of the concerned library staff.

15. Members are directed not to write or highlight anything inside the books borrowed from the library.

16. Users must not leave any book, borrowed for reading or lending purpose, on the reading desks. They must submit the books in the circulation counter before leaving the library.

17. Personal Belongings Bags are not allowed inside the library. They are to be kept in the place provided outside the library. However, they may carry their valuables like mobiles, laptops, purse and other personal belongings inside the reading room. Authorities will not be responsible for any kind of theft of personal belongings inside or outside the library.

18. Refreshments of any kind shall not be taken on the library premises.

19. Feedback Register: There is a feedback register in the library where a student / faculty member can put his / her demand for any document or grievance regarding non-availability of documents or that of library services. The register is available in the circulation section of the library.

20. Any kind of misbehaviour or unfair activities inside the library will be strictly dealt with.

21. Library Clearance Certificate: An outgoing student / faculty / staff must submit the membership cards along with books and other documents borrowed from the library in order to obtain a library clearance certificate.

22. These rules may be revised or amended from time to time and the revised or amended rules will be applicable to all the members irrespective of their dates of registration in library.

A cornerstone of the library infrastructure is its robust digital ecosystem, providing uninterrupted access to a diverse array of online resources. The digital library section features 10 computer terminals equipped with high-speed internet connectivity at 1GBPS. These terminals facilitate seamless access to a wide range of subscribed electronic resources, which includes.

National Digital Library of India (NDL) – The library is a member of National Digital Library of India (NDLI), an initiative sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Govt. of India and coordinated by Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. It comprises high quality educational materials ranging from primary to post graduate levels. It has various and diverse subject domains from science and technology to social science and humanities. Video lectures of NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning) have also been made available in NDLI.

The list of subscribed eJournals and eBooks are available on demand.

Remote Access software: The library provides the facility of accessing its eResources beyond traditional library hours. For this purpose, we have subscribed to Knimbus mLibrary Standard which not only helps in remote access but also keeps track of usage of resources on a daily basis. It also contains a huge number of open access journal articles and ebooks.

The library is automated using TCSiON software (cloud-based) implemented in 2022. Previously we were using LibSys and shifted to TCSiON in 2022. All in house operations like cataloguing, circulation, report generation, book reservation, fine collection, barcode, and spine label generation etc. can be completely operated by this software. It also has a Self-Service module which works as OPAC (Online Public Access Cataloguing). The users can check all their circulation and fine details from this module. The library database can be searched from OPAC through author, title, subject etc. to know the individual status of any book.

The library also subscribes to 33 print technical journals and magazines of various interests which can be accessed only in the periodicals section of the library. They are as follows:

• Open access system: The library provides the open access facility to its users i.e. they can directly search and find their own resources.

Q: How to obtain membership of the library?

A: All registered students and faculty of TINT can be members of the library. Separate membership is not required in the library. The identity card issued by the college with Student/Employee ID can be used as library membership card. This is essential for accessing library resources.

Q: How long the membership is valid?

A: The membership of the students is valid for the entire course session. There is no need for renewal of membership during the course session. In the case of faculty members and staff, membership is valid as long as they are serving this college.

Q: Is it possible to renew our membership after passing out from this college?

A:No. Your membership will get automatically cancelled after the session is over. Renewal may be considered for such students who have year lag. In such cases, proper documents must be submitted to the library authority.

Q: How many books can we borrow from library and for how many days?

A: A student member can borrow a maximum of 8 (eight) books at a time (subject to availability) and can keep upto semester. Faculty members and non-teaching staff (regular) can borrow 10 (ten) and 5 (five) books at a time respectively for a period of one month.

Q: Is renewal of books possible?

A: Renewal of books is always possible if there is no demand for that book from any other user. If there is a demand, books may not be renewed or may be renewed for a very limited period of time depending on the situation.

Q: Is there any facility for book reservation?

A:Yes. Book reservation facility is available in the Self-Service module of TCSiON.

Q: Can we issue reference books?

A: Core Reference books like dictionaries, encyclopaedia, handbooks, yearbooks etc. are generally not for loan. They are to be used in the reading hall only. However, general reference books may be issued for a limited period of time.

Q: Is there any facility of issuing journals?

A: No. Periodicals like journals, magazines, newspapers etc. are not for issue and to be used in the reading room only.

Q: Does the library have any audio-visual documents in its collection?

A: Yes. The library has a collection of CDs and DVDs of various books and magazines. They are kept separately in the circulation section and can be issued to the user as and when required. Headphones are available for listening to video lectures of NPTEL, NDL etc.

Q: Does the library have any special type of collection?

A: Yes. Apart from reference books the library has a good collection of English fictions. Members can issue these fictions for the purpose of pleasure reading.

Q: When can we access the reading room?

A:Library reading room is free and can be accessed throughout the working hours [09:30 am – 06:30 pm] of the library.

Q: Can we access the library beyond the working hours or on Sundays?

A:Library normally remains closed on Sundays and other public holidays. However, if there is any demand from the users, the reading room can be kept open beyond working hours (up to 08:00pm).

Q: Is there any restriction in using the reference section?

A: Yes. Reference Section can be used for using library resources only. Any kind of personal work is strictly prohibited in this area.

Q: How many books can we issue for use in library reading room?

A: There is no limit of issuing books for reading purpose. You can issue as many books/periodicals you require after making proper entry in the reading room issue register. Please remember books issued for reading purposes must be submitted on the same day, otherwise, a fine of Rs.2/- per day per book will be imposed upon till the submission of the book.

Q: Is there any fine system for late submission of books?

A: Yes. Borrowed books should be submitted within the time specified in the due date slip. Otherwise, a fine of Re.1/- per day per book will be generated till the submission of the book.

Q: Does the library provide computer facility for students?

A: Yes. The library provides 10 computer terminals for students in the digital section. All systems are provided with internet connection with 1gbps internet speed. You can also access subscribed e-resources from these systems.

Q: Does the library provide free internet to its users?

A: Yes. The library provides free Wi-Fi network to its users. WiFi password is available on demand.

Q: How can we access the previous year university question papers?

A: Soft copy previous year university question papers are readily available in Knimbus. Students / faculty members can search and download the same from Knimbus 24 X 7.
