A mass counselling session was conducted amongst the students of engineering and management studies of TICT on 16th October, 2017, with the purpose of educating them on and encouraging them to taking up higher studies in reputed Universities of the United States. The facilitator was Ms. ChandniWadhwani, who is presently serving the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), Kolkata Chapter, in the Office of the American Consulate as EducationUSA Advisor.
She talked in detail about the application procedures, such as writing an effective SOP and getting useful recommendation letters, which would help the students to develop an understanding of the fundamentalsof applying for higher studies abroad. She provided comprehensive information on the rankings of the Universities in USA, the tuition fees for different integrated programmes like Masters and Ph.D., the average cost of food and lodging, and, most importantly, the scope for employment while pursuing the courses of study there.
What the students found interesting was the prospect of a veritable number of scholarships which would provide partial or complete funding to the students depending on other given parameters. Ms. Wadhwani explained all the aspects of pursuing higher education in the States with graphical representation through a power-point presentation for the ease of understanding of the students.
She informed them of the upcoming Education Fair in Kolkata where a number of International Universities would be participating; she encouraged them to attend the Fair, so that they may explore the possibilities available to them.
Ms. Wadhwani shared her contact details and provided Contact slips to the interested students, so that they may get back to her for further assistance, and she may in turn inform them of related events in the US Consulate.
