Under the aegis of Techno India Group, Techno India College of Technology had organized an Orientation Programme “Vidyarthi Swagatam” at the Arts-Acre Foundation at New Town, Kolkata on 15th September 2016. It may be noted that a discussion on the emerging issue “Successful and Sustainable Change in Management and Engineering Education” was held on this occasion. The Assistant General Secretary, Ramkrishna Math,Swami Subiranandaji Maharaj enlightened the audience with a remarkable amalgamation of spirituality and pragmatic analysis. Eminent educationists like Dr. Ajoy Roy, Director IIEST, Shibpur, Dr. Bimal Roy, Professor (Padmasree Awardee & Former Director), ISI and Prof B. B. Pant,, Former Dean (International Relations), BIT Mesra, enriched the students, faculty members and staff of the Institute with their deliberations on the issue. Moreover, distinguished people from the Corporate Sector like Mr. Somnath Chatterjee, Vice President (Operations), Capgemini brought out various pertinent aspects of the issue from the perspective of Industry.

The ace educationists conspicuously reiterated that while many nations around the world have embraced the need for education to achieve sustainability, only limited progress has been made on any level. This lack of progress stems from many sources. In some cases, a lack of vision or awareness has impeded progress. In others, it is a lack of policy or funding.

In their deliberations the noted guests from the corporate world opined that the greatest competitive challenge facing companies today is said to be embracing change. The business environment is in constant flux and companies must grapple with a host of new realities. This backdrop of change has catalyzed a reassessment of traditional managerial concepts and practices. Furthermore, they also added that the higher education sector has undergone enormous growth in recent years and it is widely believed that future success in a globalized world economy belongs to those organizations that go the extra distance in providing and building a workforce and management to cope with these challenges has placed management education in a much sharper focus than ever before. Universities must continually assess their services and even should strive to adopt the innovative ideas of making today’s higher education more relevant and meaningful in the management paradigms. Swami Subiranandaji Maharaj brilliantly explored the possibility of a symbiosis between Science, Management and Spirituality which enthralled the audience. According to him the recent shift in the attitude of organizations toward human beings has led to the formation of various non-instrumental variables that affect the performance of organizations. The advent of such factors as morality, work ethic, spirituality, and self-control in organizations supports this claim. Today, increasing conscientiousness and work ethic in the employees is one of the first objectives of managers. Therefore, organizational structures, policies, procedures, and strategies are formulated in a way as to improve these factors. Workplace spirituality is a new concept that has recently emerged in the Western literature on management and business and it has led to the development of a new paradigm in organizational science.

The Programme concluded with the official release of the book “Basic Computation and Programming with C” by authors Prof. Subrata Saha, Techno India, Hooghly and Prof. Subhodip Mukherjee, Techno India College of Technology, Kolkata published by Cambridge University Press.
